Extra Long Yoga Mats –
What are the benefits?
Extra Long Yoga Mats are
absolutely essential if you are on the taller side. Most
yoga mats only cater for average heights and forget about
the taller population. There are many types of yoga mats on
the market and it can be frustrating trying to find a good
mat.
If you are taller than 5’10” there are many benefits of
buying extra long yoga mats. Don’t waste your money and get
a regular mat. You will be grateful you spent the extra and
got a mat that is long enough, rather than finding that you
are falling or stepping onto the surface beneath constantly.
Imagine the luxury extra long yoga mats will provide. You
will be able to stretch and be sure that you will still not
run out of mat. Extra thickness is something to consider
also. When choosing what sort of yoga mat you require, you
want to take the thickness into account. Often times if you
have knee or back problems, a thicker mat can be a sensible
choice, however, for some yoga poses which require you to
stand or balance it may not be your best bet. Extra
thickness will help if you have an injury or if you want
extra padding for your hips, knees, elbows, shoulders or
your spine. It really is a personal choice.
Yoga poses can have you all over the place, front and back,
up and down, back and tummy, with extra long yoga mats, you
will find that your knees and back are still on the mat –
which is a huge bonus. There’s nothing worse than doing a
yoga pose, with a knee, foot or elbow on the concrete -
ouch!
When it comes to purchasing extra long yoga mats, it’s also
a good idea to choose a mat that is not on the cheaper side,
you may find that you get a bargain, but the mat doesn’t
last the distance either. Often the cheaper mats are made
from materials of inferior quality such as PVC which after a
few uses, can give off a chemical odor that is quite
unpleasant. It’s a much wiser choice to spend a bit extra
and get the quality and know that your mat will last you
that much longer.
Keeping your mat clean is essential. While performing any
exercise you are bound to get a bit hot and sweaty. You will
want to keep your mat clean and free from odor. It’s a
simple task and doesn’t take long to maintain your mat, by
wiping it down with a soft cloth and mild soapy water – hang
it out to dry somewhere where it will get lots of fresh air.
Keeping it dust free in a bag will also contribute to its
longevity.
So if you are wondering whether extra long yoga mats are
worth the extra expense, I would most definitely recommend
you pay the extra money and get a mat that you will be happy
with. Buy quality and look after your mat and you will find
that your mat will last you for many long Yoga sessions to
come.
I wish you all the best on
your extra long yoga mats adventure!
Best wishes,
